On March 16th & 17th, the Beijing WIDA International Symposium was held at Beijing City International School. The WIDA International Symposium is the next step in professional learning for international educators, and follows step one, the four-day WIDA International Institute. Christopher Marionni, Head of EAL at CISH, attended the Symposium; last March, Mr. Marionni attended the four-day WIDA International Institute which was held at the Australian International School of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.

3月16日及17日,北京WIDA国际研讨会在北京乐成国际学校举行。WIDA国际研讨会是国际教育者专业学习的第二步,衔接第一步为期四天的WIDA国际学院会议。EAL负责人Christopher Marionni 参加了本次研讨会;去年三月,他同样参加了在马来西亚吉隆坡澳大利亚国际学校举办的为期四天的WIDA国际学院会议。

The two-day WIDA International Symposium was led by Jon Nordmeyer, Director of International Programs at WIDA in Madison, Wisconsin. Jon Nordmeyer has over twenty-five years experience teaching at international schools in six countries; he has also presented at many conferences: AAIE, AASSA, ACAMIS, AISA, EARCOS, ECIS, ELLSA, Learning Forward, NFI NESA and TESOL. In addition, he has taught graduate courses at universities, such as Harvard, and has also published articles in International Schools Journal and the Journal of Staff Development.


此次为期两天的WIDA国际研讨会由Jon Nordmeyer领头,Jon Nordmeyer是美国威斯康星州麦迪逊WIDA国际项目主任。他在六个国家有超过25年的的国际学校教学经验。他也出席过很多会议: AAIE, AASSA, ACAMIS, AISA, EARCOS,ECIS,ELLSA, Learning Forward, NFI NESA 以及TESOL. 此外,他还在大学教授研究生课程,例如哈佛大学,他还在国际学校杂志以及职员培训杂志上发表过文章。


The WIDA Symposium covered numerous areas in EAL and also education in general. Several important areas of discussion included: collaboration and collaborative systems, scaffolding student and teacher learning, admissions and language policies, family and community engagement, curriculum development and program design, strategic planning and professional learning, school-wide and classroom assessment, collection and use of student data, evaluating writing prompts and translanguaging. Also, several useful information sharing and collaborating technology tools were shared; Moodle, which hosts an online community of educators who have attended previous WIDA Conferences, and, Innovators’ Compass, a collaboration website designed to tackle problems and issues in an organized, shared template easily accessible online. Most importantly, the Beijing WIDA Symposium enabled each attendee to develop an action plan to apply upon returning to respective schools, and an online community (WIDA Moodle) to provide support as the action plan comes to fruition.


WIDA研讨会大体涵盖了EAL的众多领域。包括几类重要讨论:协作及协作系统,支架式教学,入学及语言政策,家庭及社会参与,课程发展及项目设计,战略规划及专业学习,学校及课堂评估,学生数据收集及使用,评估写作技巧以及多语言学习。研讨会上同样还分享了几条有用信息及合作技巧;Moodle网络平台聚集了之前参加过WIDA会议以及Innovators' Compass的教育者们, Moodle是一个协作网站,旨在用一种有组织的,方便使用的共享模版解决问题。最重要的是,北京WIDA研讨会让每个参会者都能形成一种行动计划,应用于各自学校, 同样它也是一个网络社区(WIDA Moodle), 旨在为取得成果的行动计划提供支持。
