1972年2月，理查德·尼克松在中国访问了八天，期间他与毛泽东主席会晤，并与周恩来总理签署了《上海公报》。尼克松的访问在美中关系上是个分水岭，是迈向政治关系与经济来往正常化的一步。尼克松称他的访问为“改变世界的一周”。

President Richard Nixon spent eight days in China in February 1972, during which he met Chairman Mao Zedong and signed the Shanghai Communiqué with Premier Zhou Enlai.  Nixon’s trip was a watershed moment in U.S.-China relations, a step towards the normalization of political relations and economic interaction. Nixon dubbed his visit “the week that changed the world.”
