Mardi Gras
Today (March 5) is Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Mardi Gras parties and parades are held in the weeks leading up to Lent, the 40-day period observed by many Christians before Easter. The term Mardi Gras, which means “Fat Tuesday,” describes the merrymaking on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent.
