One’s relationship with their families can largely affect their sense of satisfaction in life.

Family relationship is very important. We feel happy if we have a happy family.

· This is especially evident with people at a young age. Family members provide us with material and emotional security, which makes us feel safe and being loved.

· We are happy because parents give us food, money and love. We need all these things to feel safe.

n Example 1

· Taking myself as an example, I have a strong sense of satisfaction towards life. In fact, I always feel that I am a lucky girl, because not many other people at my age can have the opportunity to study in another country. My parents have high expectations on me, but in the meantime, they trust me and believe I can do well. This trust and confidence they give me have become my motivation, which pushes me to go forward and work hard for a bright future. All these elements in life make me feel that life is full of hope and I really look forward to growing up like this.

This positive sense of self, I think, mainly comes from my good relationship with my parents. They provide me with funding to study in Australia, and encourage me all the time. I can feel their love and I know whenever I have trouble they can always support me. Therefore, this relationship leads to my feelings of happiness in life.

However, the opposite can also be true. A less satisfactory relationship with one’s family can be destructive to their identities. In Diana Nguyen’s “Five Ways to Disappoint Your Vietnamese Mother”, her individuality is negatively impacted because of her struggling relationship with her mother. The mother does not support Diana’s interest in drama, is against her personal freedom of selecting her boyfriend and kicks her out of her house. All these actions eventually develop Diana’s disappointment towards her family and scarred her “for the rest of her life”.
