美中关系的发展不仅包括政治里程碑，而且包括我们两国人民之间深厚的人际关系。在宣誓就职之前，我们的许多大使都与中国有着根深蒂固的联系。有些在中国当过学生，在北京学习普通话; 有些在中国的不同省份出生。我们的现任大使泰里·布兰斯塔德与中国有着长期的联系，可以追溯到1985年习近平首次访问艾欧瓦州。

The U.S China relationship is marked not only by political milestones but also by deep personal connections between the people of our two countries.  Prior to being sworn in, many of our Ambassadors have had deep rooted connections to China.  Some were students in China, studying Mandarin in Beijing; some were born in different provinces of China.  Our present Ambassador, Terry Branstad, has enjoyed a long-standing connection to China dating back to Xi’s first visit to Iowa in 1985.
