The oil and gas community,industry leaders and delegates from all over the world have joined togetherthis week to celebrate the 2015 Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibitionand Conference (ADIPEC), now in its18th year. Held under the theme “Innovation and Sustainability in a New EnergyWorld”, ADIPEC 2015has broken previous records with the largest event to date, bringingtogether 2,050 exhibiting companies, including the world’s leading national andinternational companies, more than 600 speakers, 7,000 delegates, and 85,000attendees from more than 120 countries.

His HighnessSheikh Hamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Courtand member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, formally inaugurated the largestever Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC), markingthe start of four days of industry-related discussions and activities, andbringing together leading international and regional decision makers to set theagenda for meeting the growing global demand for energy.

The officialopening ceremony featured captivating speeches from H.E. Suhail Al Mazrouei,Minister of Energy, UAE, H.E. Abdulla Nasser Al Suwaidi, Director General ofADNOC, Ali Khalifa Al Shamsi, Strategy and Coordination Director, ADNOC andADIPEC 2015 Chairman, followed by riveting insights and projections on thetransforming energy landscape by keynote speaker Dr. Daniel Yergin, awardwinning author and world’s leading authority on energy.

H. E. AbdullaNasser Al Suwaidi, Director General of ADNOC, said, "Industry leaders,decision makers, and stakeholders have all gathered in Abu Dhabi today to focuson innovation by using ADIPEC as a knowledge-sharing platform for drivingindustry change. Together, we can advance the energy sector and developcreative solutions for meeting the world’s energy needs. At ADNOC, through theguidance and support of the Supreme Petroleum Council, we are still on track toreach a total oil output capacity of 3.5 billion barrels per day in the UAEwithin the next two to three years."

Ali KhalifaAl Shamsi, Strategy and Coordination Director, ADNOC and ADIPEC 2015 Chairman,said, “ADIPEC has been an integral part of Abu Dhabi’s hydrocarbon industrysince it was established in 1984, and has transformed over the years to becomeone of the world’s largest oil and gas events. With growing global recognitionand interest from both major industry players, and emerging markets, ADIPECwill continue to raise Abu Dhabi’s profile as a global knowledge hub for theenergy sector."

Generalsessions focused on driving innovation, future sustainability prospects, thefuture energy mix, best practices in oil and gas, the role of technology in theenergy sector, and offered global and regional viewpoints.

The first oftwo CEO Plenary Sessions brought together chief executives from the world’sleading to discuss the opportunities and challenges of the ever-growing globaldemand in energy. Plenary speakers included representatives from ADCO,JOGMEG, Statoil, and Lazard.

The first dayof ADIPEC 2015 concluded with the announcement of this year’s winners of theADIPEC Awards at the ceremonial Gala Dinner, which is hosted by ADNOC and heldat the Emirates Palace Hotel. The ADIPEC 2015 Awards, which celebrateexcellence in energy and recognise innovation in the Middle East, welcomed arecord 501 submissions this year, featuring­­ some of the most innovativepeople, companies, and projectsin the region.
