Three experts commence as new transport partners for Holding Redlich
Holding Redlich has recently strengthened its Transport Law capability with the addition of three partners to its Sydney office.
Geoff Farnsworth, Danella Wilmshurst and Nathan Cecil collectively have more than 50 years’ experience in transport law having acted in that time for Australian and international shipowners, charterers, manufacturers and primary producers, and logistics providers.
In particular they have acted regularly for Chinese shipowners, shipping lines and banks, as well as Chinese trading companies and manufacturers. They have many clients in Hong Kong, Singapore and China.
The addition of three new partners adds substantially to the firms existing capacity in rail, ports, public transport and aviation and makes the firm one of Australia’s leading transport law firms.
The Transport sector in Australia is strong, and growing, with exports and imports increasing every year.
According to figures recently published by the Australian Logistics Council, the Transport industry contributes A$130 billion to the Australian economy, or 8.6% of GDP.
There are significant opportunities for growth both domestically in terms of freight and public transport, as well as internationally, into South East Asia and beyond.
On the domestic front, strong investment in infrastructure across road, rail, ports and aviation will create opportunities for the more efficient provision of logistics services.
Increasing regulation of road transport along with substantial penalties for breach will require highly specialist advice to all parties in the road transport sector. This will include retailers and manufacturers, importers and exporters, as well as storage operators and distribution centres.
It is likely that coastal shipping will be deregulated to some extent, opening the door for foreign shipowners to become more involved with the coastal trade.
The growing sophistication of the Australian logistics sector will mean that local logistics companies will be well placed to take advantage of opportunities in the developing markets of South East Asia. Increasing investment in those countries in transport and logistics infrastructure necessary to support economic growth with create a market of Australian expertise.
