纪录片放映(58分钟)与讨论:男声女权穆斯林 Manhood in Contemporary Islam: “Manislam”Documentary Film Screening and Discussion

Inthe U.S. and around the world, non-Muslims often have a narrow view of what itmeans to be Muslim. For example, when non-Muslims think of Islam one of thefirst things they often think about is the role and treatment of women inMuslim societies. However, the burdens and challenges of manhood within Islamicsocieties are often overlooked. In partnership with the China Women’s FilmFestival, the Beijing American Center will host a screening and discussion ofthe documentary film “Manislam”by writer, filmmaker, producer Nefise ÖzkalLorentzen. Through personal portraits of 4 Muslim men from 4different countries, the film explores Muslim masculinities and attempts toremove Muslim men from their patriarchal heritage in order to better understandthe role they play in contemporary Islam and the efforts they have made toreform their religion and society. After the screening, the film’s director willlead a discussion and answer audience questions.
This program will be conducted inEnglish. The film will be in Bengali, Turkish, Indonesian, Arabic and Englishwith English and Chinese subtitles.
