THE biggest millionaire’s row in Victoria is tucked away in Melbourne’s tree-lined eastern suburbs.

Mont Albert Rd in Canterbury is lined with 152 homes worth $1 million or more, according to new data.

It leads a pack of prestigious streets where almost every house comes with a seven-figure price tag.

The research, by property portal onthehouse.com.au, shows golden miles are also cropping up in unexpected places.

Ashburton’s Fakenham Rd now has a million-dollar starting price, along with nearby Pascoe St in Glen Iris.

Eliza Owen, the website’s market analyst, said emerging millionaire neighbourhoods were hot on the heels of the established rich list.

Ashburton was one of the top growth areas, with 85 per cent of homes now valued at $1 million or more.

It is catching the 20 Melbourne suburbs where 95 per cent of houses have seven-figure values, led by Balwyn, with 99.29 per cent.

Ms Owen said there were only a handful of houses in Balwyn which the website valued at less than $1 million.

“Wherever they are, you’d want to find them and do them up,” she said.

People wanting to buy in the state’s biggest golden mile, Mont Albert Rd, would face stiff competition, according to RT Edgar, Boroondara, director Glen Coutinho.

The high-calibre homes, leafy setting and proximity to reputable private schools meant properties were snapped up quickly, he said.

Houses start at about $1.5 million, but the real trophies would cost $10 million or more, Mr Coutinho said.

He sold a three-bedroom, three-bathroom home at 2/54 Mont Albert Rd in February for $5.16 million under the hammer.

It neighbours one of Melbourne’s grandest private residences, the 19th century estate “Frognall”.

Fakenham Rd in Ashburton might not have the same sense of history, but land value alone was now north of $1.2 million, according to Buxton, Ashburton, agent James Marcou.

“It’s a very tightly held spot, people tend not to move for 30 or 40 years,” he said.

He sold a new home at 36 Fakenham Rd for $1.658 million in February.

The flashiest new houses on the street would break the $2 million mark if they came up for sale, Mr Marcou said.
