Australian penthouses take luxury to new heights

ROOFTOP terraces, dizzying views and prime locations in the heart of town make penthouses the crown jewels of Australian real estate.

High-flying buyers are spoiled for choice with the selection currently up for sale around the nation.

Head of sales at realestate.com.au Tom Ainsworth said the sky was the limit.

“Owning a penthouse right in the middle of the city is a dream for many and literally could make anyone feel like they are on top of the world,” Mr Ainsworth said.

The recent $25 million sale of the “super penthouse” in the Australia 108 tower shows the sky is also the limit for prices.

The 750sq m space at the pinnacle of Melbourne’s tallest apartment building sold off-the-plan earlier this month.

The tower’s penthouse has been spoken for, but there are several sky-high apartments still available.

A three-bedroom, three-bathroom apartment at 8704/70 Southbank Blvd, Southbank, has a $3.813 million price tag.

It is one of Australia 108’s “cloud residences”, above the shared facilities on levels 70 and 71 which include two swimming pools, a gym and two dining rooms.

The building’s four sub-penthouses are also set to hit the market. They are expected to be priced from $11.5 million to $12.5 million and take up half a floor each on levels 96 and 97.

A $9 million apartment in Main Beach, just north of the Surfers Paradise glitter strip, has views across the Gold Coast’s iconic beachfront.

The 26 Breaker St penthouse’s massive 1085sq m floorplan spans four levels and includes six bedrooms, six bathrooms and three kitchens.

A private whiskey bar and temperature-controlled wine cellar are the icing on the cake.

The rooftop terrace on level 30 has a covered swimming pool, barbecue area and steam room.

Agent Faye Tyson, of Coldwell Banker, Main Beach, said the Gold Coast’s prestige market was picking up speed but buyers were homing in on quality.

“I’m finding the buyers are quite discerning,” she said.

Panoramic views of Sydney Harbour provide a striking backdrop to 801/20 Alfred St, Milsons Point.

The four-bedroom, four-bathroom apartment is up for sale for $8.5 million.

The 548sq m floorplan includes two levels of terraces, which are ideal vantage points to soak up the views.

The top floor of the home is a private retreat, including a living zone, office and main bedroom with dressing room and ensuite overlooking a reflection pool.

A penthouse in Darwin’s Mantra Padanus hotel is on the market with a $2.75 million-plus asking price.

The new owner of 2802/43E Knuckey St will have access to the hotel’s gym and swimming pool, plus a private lap pool.

The apartment has three bedrooms, each with their own ensuites, and a wraparound balcony with ocean views.

Walls of glass to the glossy kitchen and living zone capture the outlook.
