Have you ever wanted to live in your own private hotel?
Well, 81 Markwell St, Hamilton fits the bill perfectly.
This tri-level home called Alambee and is a contemporary home on the exclusive side of Hamilton Hill.
The owners Mary and James Kelaher, who have lived there for almost 10 years have maximised their home to take full advantage of their spectacular vantage point, and eviable art collection.
The five bedroom, five bathroom and five car garage contemporary home truly feels like your own private hotel.
It’s deceptive how big it is.
The Kelahers have impeccable taste in collecting Australian comtemporary art and their ultra modern home provides the best gallery possible to display their collection.
“We have more than 40 works of art scattered throughout the house. It’s taken James and I, quite a few years to acquire these pieces. For example, we commissioned the Bronwyn Oliver sculpture in our foyer (our favourite) and waited two years for it to be realised and we were delighted when it arrived in 2003,” Ms Kelaher said.
“Sadly the artist is no longer with us as she died in 2006. Her works have quadrupled in value and they very rarely come into the market. There is a major piece in the Hilton Hotel, Sydney called ‘vine’.
“Why have we done this? Our philosophy in collecting art and houses has been to find the most sought after position and dwelling and to fill it with beautiful things to create an wonderful aesthetic and sanctuary for our family.
“We think we’ve achieved that at 81 Markwell St and hopefully a buyer will come along with similar aspirations.”
To Ms Kelaher the home almost feels “like you are in a luxury apartment” without the expensive body corporate.
“So we are selling because the house is a bit too big for us,” she said, as their two children have now left home.
“It’s very private and quite deceiving front the front of the house.
“We want to travel and we want a three-bedroom apartment around New Farm or Teneriffe so we can just lock up and go.
“Australians have always wanted houses but now both of our kids are in apartments, and we have been looking at units and we see a lot of families in units now.”
Mr Kelaher said the views from their home were spectacular at night.
“Our last house (in Point Pier, Sydney) was very traditional but with smaller rooms. So we love this house because there’s lots of light and lots of glass and open spaces. You can see the view from all around, no matter where you stand. It’s really been a great modern house,” Mr Kelaher said.
‘It’s very quiet here too as it’s a cul de sac.”
Ray White New Farm marketing agent Christine Rudolph said there had been lots of interest in the tri-level home.
“The sophisticated interiors open to the north while the floor plan offers a multitude of seamless living and entertaining spaces, where both indoor and outdoor merge to enjoy the spectacular river and city view corridor,” she said.
The substantial home includes a separate lower level with a fully self contained with kitchen, complete with its own entrance, ideal for guests, visitors or office.
There’s also an enviable five car lock up garage and adjoining room for a private gymnasium.
Every conceivable luxury has been considered in this penthouse style alternative, with spectacular swimming pool and enormous entertainment pavilion.
Custom designed and located on a private street this outstanding opportunity offers a lifestyle only few get the pleasure of enjoying.
