After weeks of small ups and downs, upstreams in the United Statesmanaged to add 10 new rigs last week.
According to Baker Hughes, the number of rigs looking for oil and gasjumped to 884 last week, up 10 rigs from last week but still 1,024 fewer rigscompared to the same time last year.
The number of rigs drilling for natural gas climbed by four to 213 rigswhile the number of rigs drilling for oil ticked up by six to 670 rigs, only afraction of the 1,588 oil rigs operating a year ago.
The horizontal rig count rose to 672 rigs after adding eight rigs lastweek, down from 1,317 horizontal rigs drilling a year ago.
The directional drill count dipped by one rig down to 83 rigs and thevertical rig count ticked up to 129 rigs after adding three rigs.
California and North Dakota each added one rig last week while WestVirginia added two rigs.
Drillers in Kansas added three rigs and Louisiana added four rigs.
Colorado recorded a two rig loss last week.
Rig counts in Alaska, Arkansas, New Mexico Oklahoma, Utah, and Wyomingheld steady from last week.
Texas was the big winner last week after seeing its rig count climb byeight to 383 rigs compared to the 908 rigs operating in the state during thesame time last year.
The Permian Basin, located in Texas, saw its rig count jump to 254 rigsafter adding six rigs, still down from 560 rigs during the same period lastweek.
The number of rigs drilling in the Gulf of Mexico rose to 37 rigs aftera three rig gain, down from 60 rigs drilling in the play at the same time lastyear.
The total number of rigs drilling for oil and gas in the North Americanclimbed to 1,092 rigs last week after adding three rigs, still only a fractionof the 2,295 rigs drilling during the same time last year.
