Toddlers can bevoracious readers. They are also delightful reading companions as they are juststarting to request favorites, remember rhymes and even catch your skippedwords. Toddlers are interactive partners and when you read together you willget to know your child better and make wonderful memories. Treasure the time now, as children growquickly and soon enough you will long for these treasured snuggly hours readingtogether.

After hearing a lot of buzz around the term “Reggio Emilia”,I attended the Explore+Discover event focused on infant and toddler developmentusing this approach. I attended theevent on Thursday and truly enjoyed the evening. Arriving guestswere greeted warmly with music playing in the background and snacks and drinksawaiting consumption. The crowd was intimate and diverse, with variousprofessionals from different backgrounds in the audience. Although apower point presentation and video clip guided the presentation, theconversation was informal and interactive, with audience members sharing theirperspectives and personal experiences.

Rethinking theColorful Kindergarten Classroom

A new study looked at whether colorfully decorated classroomsencourage or distract from learning for kindergarteners. The study found that when kindergartners weretaught in a highly decorated classroom, they were more distracted, their gazesmore likely to wander off task, and their test scores lower than when they weretaught in a room that was comparatively plain. Montessori schools have long emphasized a calmer, understated look.(http://mobile.nytimes.com/blogs/well/2014/06/09/rethinking-the-colorful-kindergarten-classroom/)
