最火大数据来袭!华威大学跨学科研究中心2015-16学年将开设一门新的研究生课程MSc Big Data & Digital Futures
Big data are transforming digital processes in everyday life. Increasingly, governments, business, industry and third sector organisations all rely on employees with an understanding what big data are, how they can be used, and what their strengths and weaknesses might be. In turn, there is a growing demand for postgraduates to be able to critically engage with big data both theoretically, methodologically and practically and to understand the role that data play shaping life more generally.
In contrast to many big data focused degrees (e.g. Data Science or Data Analytics) where the focus ends up being almost explicitly on data practices and tools, here the onus is on developing both a range of theoretical approaches to digital data and objects in general as well some practice based methodological skills. As such, both method and data are taken to be social products with considerable overlapping ontologies and epistemologies and, by the end of the degree, students will be able to critically engage with the rapid changing modes of big data in circulation in general.
The course also provides an excellent foundation for those intending to undertake further postgraduate research at doctoral level.
Who should apply?
This course is aimed at students from a range of disciplinary backgrounds who want to learn more about the ways in which data and digital processes play a role in everyday life. Although no specific background is required, your application must demonstrate an ability to work creatively and independently as well as an interest in big data and digital futures in general. For further information, contact CIM Masters Director, Dr. Olga Goriunova: [email protected].
