American network TV has shaped the TV landscape more than any other stations. The Big Three: CBS, NBC and ABC began as radio stations. In the 1940’s they all began regular TV broadcasts. They then dominated American TV sets until 1986 with the founding of FOX. CBS also was home to the most iconic news anchor in American TV history, Walter Cronkite, who covered every major event for American households from 1962-1981. His influence was so powerful that it is rumored, even American Presidents feared negative coverage on his nightly news coverage. Today, Americans get their entertainment from hundreds of cable networks, and are increasingly moving to online platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime. How do you get news that you trust?
