Job Description:

The UCL Institute of Education Confucius Institute (IOE CI) is essentially the national centre for advice on and support for the teaching and learning ofChinese and about China in Secondary and Primary schools in England. 

This is a new post that will exist to oversee the delivery of the Department for Education (DFE) Mandarin Excellence Programme (MEP). Reporting directly to theConfucius Institute Director, day to day responsibility for MEP activity will be held by the Programme Coordinator who will also be the main point of contact with the DFE, programme delivery partners (British Council) and the ProjectTeam.

The postholder will develop appropriate support for schools involved in the programme. This will include curriculum and resource development, delivery and design of teacher training and CPD, online resources (MOOCs), development of assessment tests and immersive learning materials. They will have the ability to build strong relationships with delivery partners and other stakeholders, in particular Headteachers and teachers of Chinese involved in the programme and the external evaluators of the MEP. 

The post is available immediately and is available in the first instance until 31March 2020.

KeyRequirements

The postholder will be a Chinese speaker with experience of Chinese teaching and be learning in schools. Demonstrable experience of planning, developing, managing and responsibility for the successful delivery of education programmes including training 

for teachers is essential along with an understanding of the challenges faced in the English school system. Practical experience in developing ways to improve teaching,enhancing the curriculum, creating and sharing materials, including online materials is key to the role. Applicants will be good communicators experienced in stakeholder management.
