Duane Niatum is a Native American poet, author and playwright of Klallam descent. Niatum is often quoted as a member of the second wave of the Native American “renaissance”. After achieving literary success, he went on to become the general editor of Harper and Row's Native American Authors Program, publishing some of the most important works of Native American writing to date. His writing often centers around the Northwest coastal landscape and its flora and fauna.
