The New South Wales Government Shanghai Office works to promote investment and trade with China by connecting businesses and promoting NSW as a preferred investment choice, partner for trade and destination for study.
NSW has a world leading food and agribusiness sector renowned internationally for its ‘clean, green and safe’ produce. Global demand for premium food and fiber products is expected to grow substantially, particularly with Asia’s growing middle class. Australia’s agricultural sector seeks to capitalise on our proximity to Asia and our strong international brand value.
The office is seeking to recruit an Agribusiness Development Manager to work alongside the Trade and Investment Commissioner and in partnership with NSW Department of Primary Industries. This is a local contract position with an initial contract period of two years. Applicants must be Chinese residents and proficient in both English and Mandarin. Remuneration will be based on experience.
The successful applicant will be an experienced professional with expertise in investment and trade facilitation as well as government relations.

Major responsibilities:
§ Identify Chinese partners with an interest in agricultural produce from NSW, investing into NSW’s booming agricultural sector and developing partnerships with NSW companies;
§ Promote and increase brand awareness of food and fibre products from NSW and the strengths of the domestic sector;
§ Identify, evaluate and facilitate the development of opportunities to grow food and fibre exports to China and support investment into the agricultural sector;
§ Provide advice on market intelligence, business opportunities and local regulations to NSW Primary Industries;
§ Assist with the organization of Agribusiness and Food inbound and outbound visits by key stakeholders and senior officials;
§ Assist with Agribusiness event management such as trade fairs, workshops and exhibitions.
Skills and experience required:
§ Experience in working closely with agribusiness stakeholders, particularly with emerging Agribusiness importers;
§ Sound knowledge and awareness of international and domestic business practises.
§ Knowledge of the Australian business environment;
§ Excellent organisational, teamwork and project management skills;
§ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and capacity to deliver high level presentations and network with industry groups;
§ Good understanding of business ethics and practices, and ability to evaluate business opportunities;
§ Fluency in Mandarin and English, both written and spoken;
§ Well-developed sales and marketing skills;
§ Tertiary qualifications in economics, marketing, or business;
