To support the Company’s design and new product introduction activity as determined by the current programme, including:

• Working as an individual, or more likely leading an NPD/NPIproject team, undertaking tasks as appropriate to the specific project.

• Leading the engineering design activity within a NPD project team, providing guidance and direction to Engineers and Design Technicians.

• Development of design solutions for specified projects, and operating without the need for technical supervision. Responsible for delivering technical solutions meeting the business requirements for time, cost and quality.

• Definition of design solutions using tools available including 2D / 3D CAD.

• Own the evaluation and testing of design solutions and competitors products, reporting findings and making recommendations, using formal technical process as applicable e.g. DFMEA, FEA.

• Compilation and entry of supporting data such as: Product Structures, Design Record Files, Engineering Changes etc.

• Participation in and, in some cases leading project reviews.

• Liaison with manufacturing engineers, suppliers and global design centres to ensure design solutions are implemented in a timely and cost effective manner. Includes domestic and international travel as appropriate.

• Using engineering drawings to check and reference machining strategies and programs

• Creating 3 & 5 axis machining programs from templates and CAD geometry.

• Adopting best practice techniques to ensure the safe efficient assembly of production is adopted

• Assist in the specification of new capital equipment and the installation into a busy production environment

• Working within the guidelines of departmental and company policies, procedures and work instructions.

• Evolution of policies, procedures, work instructions and specific guidance documents.

• Research of relevant technical developments from various sources including: WWW, technical literature, suppliers, standards authorities etc.

• During the initial phase of employment, be prepared to travel on a regular basis to production facilities in the UK and when appropriate globally, to take part in design/project reviews.

• Longer term, be prepared to relocate to China on a permanent basis to support the introduction of a new production facility and ongoing new product development activity to suit global markets

Ideally, a Mechanical Engineering graduate, fluent/native in Mandarin (both verbal and written), and with English as second language (both verbal and written).

Should have an aptitude for product design / development and experience within an environment encompassing some or all of the following aspects:

• Design of mechanical / electro-mechanical products  / mechanisms.

• Plastic injection moulding/vacuum forming

• Knowledge of design and heavy machining manufacture of large tooling 

• Knowledge of plastic vacuum forming, resin cast moulding and general assembly routines using CNC machinery

• Knowledge of Delcam Power Mill 2014, 2D and 3D CAD preferably Pro Engineer (Creo) and  SAP MRP systems

• Working within a lean manufacturing environment using Six Sigma tools and techniques to effectively manage improvement activities

• Shower or water control products.

• Consumer products.

• Material Fabrication and assembly.

• Non ferrous process knowledge ( e.g. Casting etc ).

• 3D / 2D CAD, preferably ProE/CREO

• Mutli disciplinary team working

• Experience as lead engineer
