Jen Lue is an American writer whose fiction and non-fiction work deals with issues surrounding race, family history and the multi-faceted aspects of her Chinese-American identity. Born in the United States to parents from Zhejiang province, Jen toggles between the experience of understanding her parents’ home culture, the history of Chinese in America, and being seen as wholly American in a racially-charged society. Please join us at the Beijing American Center for a talk where Jen will share her personal experience as a second-generation Chinese-American through the lens of her family's history in both China and the U.S. She will also speak on her path to becoming an emerging writer, the themes and concerns specific to recent Chinese-American literature, and give a reading of new and recent nonfiction work written while in residence here in Beijing at the Red Gate Gallery.
This program will be conducted in English with simultaneous translation into Chinese.
