As time goes on,views, practices and laws tend to change, with some putting forth the idea that traditional views and ways of life are not helpful in raising new generations. Personally, I generally disagree with that view, acknowledging that the today holds different challenges and viewpoints, but believing that a familiarity with customs and traditions is an important aspect of humanity.

Even common business methods have changed, with modern job-seekers being required to build an online profile. With societal progress comes change in many forms and new generations need to adhere to the new ways to keep pace.

Despite these differences, it is necessary to have an understanding about traditional values to ensure change is positive. Generally, morality is an aspect of humanity that transcends time, with many moral values being passed on from one generation to another, evidenced by the fact that crimes like murder and theft have always been considered wrong. Immanuel Kant is a philosopher known for creating the concept of a categorical imperative, stating that an act everyone considers to be wrong is actually wrong. Looking at the way societal values have changed over time, which requires an understanding of traditional viewpoints from older generations, can allow younger generations to if change is needed.
