吃在华威 - Farmers Market Day
Farmers' Markets
Ostrich burgers, gourmet toasties, wood fired pizza, fresh bread and meat, a selection of cakes....this only means one thing; the mouth watering farmers' market on campus!
Every few weeks the farmers' market takes the piazza by storm. Students, like myself, enthusiastically descend on the numerous stalls, scouting out any particularly delicious treats. At the end of last term I was really happy about finding some banana bread (one of my favourites) and lemon drizzle cake, which was amazing. The same stall offered gluten free and vegan bread, which means that it catered to even more students - my parents are vegan and next time I spot that stall I may be snatching up some treats for them. Many of my friends have acquired a taste for the fresh ostrich and crocodile burgers and there is always a queue of keen students, although I have yet to try the interesting delicacy!
The market runs from 10am to 3pm and this term they're taking place on select Wednesday's (8th October, 29th October, 19th November, 29th and 30th of November for a special family weekend and the 3rd of December.) Prices vary but are normally reasonable and the quality of the produce is very high. The farmers markets weren't properly running when I was a first year and looking back I would have found them really useful. For first years they're particularly helpful because you can quickly walk over from your accommodation, grab some lunch, and also do a spot of food shopping! Of course this is also possible for second and third years, but there is the added element that you need to take your shopping with you on the journey back to Leamington or Coventry (very doable in my opinion, but some might find it a hassle)
Here are a few photos from my recent visit to one of the markets! Keep an eye out for the amusing advertising....
I'm counting down until the next market day - I think a sweet treat or two is in order for all the essay writing! If you're a student at Warwick and havent yet been to the market, I implore you to go along and if you're a prospective student then the farmers' market is another great thing which Warwick has to offer you!
