ClientEarth is a public interest environmental law group founded in 2007 which brings together law, science and policy to create practical solutions to key environmental challenges. Working in partnership with civil society and policy makers, we are committed to securing the rights of citizens and civil society to participation, information and justice in environmental matters. 

Environmental issues are now at the top of the legislative agenda in China and this requires a new approach to environmental issues and provides an opening for ClientEarth to provide support to those grappling with these new developments. 

In Europe and beyond, ClientEarth's 80 strong staff includes legal experts qualified in more than ten jurisdictions based in offices in London, Brussels and Warsaw and with lawyers in Ghana, Gabon and Congo Brazzaville. Our programmes cover democracy, wildlife, oceans, forests, energy, climate change, business and health.

Reporting into the Head of Programme based in Beijing, this exciting and challenging role for a mandarin speaking lawyer will contribute to a focused period of scoping, research and strategy development to enable and support the development of strategies and defined work programmes in the environmental arena in China.

 The role will focus primarily on identifying and strategically developing opportunities for legal programmes and supporting legal work in China designed to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon world. 

• Collating and assimilating the findings generated through the scoping period to build a thorough and comprehensive strategy around opportunities for legal initiatives, interventions and impact in China;

• Identifying, developing and maintaining relationships with key contacts and partners within the field such as NGOs, lawyers, science and policy experts, journalists, politicians and other decision-makers;

• Ensuring the production of high quality written work tailored to a wide variety of legal, policy, political, civil society and interdisciplinary audiences;

• Participating in formal and informal forums, groups and events and representing ClientEarth's thinking and analysis in external forums;

The Successful Applicant

The successful candidate will hold a law degree or equivalent and be able to research and analyze the legal and environmental landscape in China and use such research and analysis to develop and assess strategies which will advance ClientEarth's proposed legal initiatives in China. 

You will be ready to lead in strategic legal thinking, advocacy and creative problem solving in a public interest law setting. More generally, you will be an excellent communicator, able to apply legal skills creatively, comfortable in conveying complex ideas to a wide variety of audiences and able to facilitate ongoing co-operation with a wide range of stakeholders and partners. 

You will be a fluent English and Mandarin speaking lawyer and be able to demonstrate inter-cultural skills and familiarity with Chinese working, business and legal principles and practices, either in a legal or business context.

Position: 

Full time Reservation Agent based on 6 shifts per week (day and evening)
