来，听听树的声音

‍‍TheLorax是著名童书作家苏斯博士（Dr. Seuss）的著名寓言。苏斯博士在美国可谓家喻户晓，这本书也上了很多美高的书单。

虽然这是本绘本，但是讲的却是对所有人都可读的故事。故事在一片灰暗中开始，荒凉的街，废弃的城市，了无人烟。而故事则是由一个孤僻怪异的、独居在角落里的高楼上的once-ler来讲述。讲述者并不露面，而是放下一个话筒，给寻求答案的男孩听。

来，听听这话筒里，到底传来怎样的令人毛骨悚然的故事？这城市经历了怎样的摧残？Once-ler为何要离群索居？这里的人、树和动物都去哪里了？

而本书的画风，是一贯的苏斯博士的风格：夸张怪异，色彩奔放。文字，也是典型的苏斯博士的文风，书中充满了苏斯博士自创的词，随处可见头韵和尾韵，读起来朗朗上口，妙趣横生。

Meet The Lorax, a bushy-mustached andpotato-shaped creature who “speaks for the trees, for the trees have notongues.” The Lorax is Dr. Seuss’s 1971 classic fable about how long-termeconomic imbalance and environmental degradation in our society can lead toself-destruction.

But The Lorax does not read like a dryscience textbook. It is filled with symbolic and dream-like creatures: playfulbrown Bar-ba-loots, happily singing Swomee-Swans, freely swimming Humming-Fish,and funny long-stumps-of-hair looking Truffula Trees. They all live in abeautiful, peaceful, and clean forest. Until the Once-ler comes, with his giftof ingenuity and his curse of self-destruction and environmental devastation.

The books begs the question: will we, as ahuman race, be able to meet our present needs without compromising the abilityof our future generations to meet their own needs? The Lorax tells us what canhappen to people looking only for their own profit, and why our planet shouldnever be taken for granted.

So… if you are looking for answers, TheLorax may have them for you. Back when I was a teenager, it had them for me.Every action has repercussions, but you can always choose whether the outcomeis positive or negative.
