人力资源(Human Resources简称HR),常用来指“人力资源管理”,企业管理中主要部门职能之一,着重于帮助现代企业解决企业人力资本运用的问题,其基本原则是:在正确的时间把正确的人安排在正确的岗位上。人力资源管理的主要职能包括:人员招募;培训及开发;薪酬及福利管理等。
美国大学有人力资源管理硕士的学校还是少之又少的,前100的学校里不超过15所。而且所在学校里所属的院系不完全一样,有的属于劳动关系学院(School of Labor and Employment Relation )例如伊利诺伊大学香槟分校,主要是侧重培养学生在各领域的人力资源专业技能,学生毕业后进公司、组织或政府机构都可以,有的属于商学院(School of Business)例如俄亥俄州立大学和明尼苏达大学,重点培养学生在企业的人力资源管理能力由于人力资源管理在划分时可能在不同的院校,因此申请者考GRE或者GMAT都可以。美国公认的前5名有Cornell University,University of Minnesota-Twin Cities,University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign,Michigan State University和Rutgers,the State University of New Jersey-New Brunswick。除此之外,Pennsylvania State Univeristy-Park, Ohio State University, Purdue University以及Texas A&M University也是不错的选择。

Full-time program
For students dedicated to graduate studies full time. Program begins in the fall and classes held throughout the day and evening. Students enroll in 12 credits per semester and complete the degree in two academic years. For many students, a full-time summer internship between the first and second year rounds out the program.

The MA-HRIR program does not require a thesis. The degree program requires 38 credits in human resources, 8 credits in related fields, and the capstone course. A foreign language is not required. Most students take 12 credits per semester. The first half of the program consists of 4-credit (14-week) courses in each of the 6 areas of HRIR. The second half includes 14 credits of HRIR electives, 8 credits of related field courses, plus a final class on strategy, execution, and ethics.

录取信息:Although there are no absolute qualifications for admission to the MA-HRIR program, most admitted students have strong undergraduate records (3.0+ on a 4.0 scale) and score at the 40th percentile or better on the verbal and quantitative sections of the GRE or GMAT. Work experience is not required but is encouraged.
TOEFL iBT: 79 or above with section scores of 21 on writing and 19 on reading
IELTS: 6.5
What is the application deadline?
The full-time program only admits students for fall entry. The priority application deadline and the deadline for consideration for financial aid is February 1st. After that date, we consider and admit applicants on a rolling basis until the program is full.

Do I need to have work experience to be considered?
Applicants for admission to the full-time HRIR master’s program do not need to have previous work experience, although it is encouraged. Nearly all part-time students have full-time careers.

The MS-MGMT, with an emphasis in Human Resources, program requires a minimum of 600 on the written TOEFL exam, 250 on the computerized version, or 100 on the TOEFL iBT. As an alternative to the TOEFL, international students may present an IELTS score of 7 or higher.

Earn your MHRIR by completing 12 courses (48 hours) in three semesters. 12门课,48个课时。
The largest class enrolls in the fall and graduates in December of the next year. This allows students to enter the workforce sooner than graduates in other programs, giving them a competitive edge. Spring semester enrollment is also available. 一般是9月份入学,次年的12月份毕业,也就是一年半的项目。
Work Experience
Although prior work experience in human resources and industrial relations is not required, we encourage you to gain some work experience before you enroll.

Statistics Requirement
Students must complete an undergraduate introductory course in statistics. We strongly recommend you complete this course before you enroll at the school. You may take such a course without graduate credit during your first semester in the master’s program, but doing so may delay completion because of course sequencing.

MHRIR (NON-THESIS OPTION) – 48 HOURS
To receive a master’s in human resources and industrial relations (MHRIR), students must complete a 48-hour program. Many of the classes available to LER students are cross-listed with other programs.
Among the 48 hours of coursework, two courses are required:
LER 591 Employment Relations Systems
LER 593 Quantitative Methods in Labor and Employment Relations (statistics)

One course in each of the four subject areas is also required:

往年录取情况Student Stats
In 2013-2014, LER students came from 104 undergraduate institutions (57 domestic, 47 international), 65 majors, 20 states, and 7 countries. The class was 67% female, 23% minority (including Asian), and 30% International. Thirty-seven percent of the students had a year or more of work experience and the average age at entrance was 24.

What GPA is needed for admission?
Entering students at LER have an average GPA of 3.5, but our admission process is not formula driven. We have students with a wide range of undergraduate GPAs.

How do you determine GPA?
Your last two years of undergraduate work at the time of application is used to determine your GPA. If you take more than four years to graduate, all coursework beyond the second year is used in the GPA determination.

What GMAT score is needed for admission?
Admitted students who take the GMAT receive an average composite score between a 580-650.

LER requires a student have at least a 590 PBT, 243 CBT, or 96 iBT score to be considered for admission. However, the University of Illinois has minimum standards for full admission. You must have a 613 PBT, 257 CBT or 103 iBT score to be admitted on full status. If your score is between 590-612 written, 243-256 computer or 96-102 iBT, you may be admitted on limited status. This means that you must take the English Placement Test (EPT) upon your arrival on campus. This test will determine if you need to take any English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at the University. 托福要求96,但103以上是full admission。如果在96-102之间需要做语言测试。
接受IELFS,但没有说具体录取要求。
