中央圣马丁面料专业-编织系列作品

ZENGKE JIN

Inspired by Newton’s law of universal gravitation states and surreal levitation photography, the fact that visual perception will take the most advantage of people’s cognition of objects raises the question: Can one achieve heavy weight perception with light weight material? By combining the pattern of gravitation movement and illusion art, the outcomes are designed into three-dimensional shape with different perspectives and woven trimmings with illusory patterns.

SANCHIA LUKE TAN

The title of my project is called Tapau – a Singaporean phrase in a Chinese dialect that directly translates to “Take-away”.

This series of woven textiles and photography is an expansion of that idea, except instead of actually bringing away a local cuisine, it captures the imagery of what makes up each dish in textures, colour and form for one to “Take away”.

Each photo serves as personal reminders associated with a particular dish.  Be it one that I cooked when I was little, ill, or celebrated on occasion amongst family members.

ORLA LAWN

This collection of interior hanging partitions is a material exploration that brings together the processes of weaving and casting.

Inspired by building construction, facades and the strength of silk, the project aimed at blurring the line between built elements and interior textiles.

JOSEPHINE ORTEGA

This project investigates the perception of ‘comfort’ and culminates in a concept for transport seating. In order to define this abstract notion, I explored where and when people feel at their most comfortable. From visualizing this research, I then used an alternative construction method to challenge the weight and density of fabrics.

JADE ANDERSON

Inspired by surfaces in public spaces designed for traction and purchase, I was interested in the pattern and relief of the materials to aid movement, mitigate noise and increase spatial awareness. To develop these concepts, I studied tactile surfaces and fabrics for grip and friction such as Velcro. With a focus on material technologies, I used the Dinoscope to explore their connective qualities. The work looks to express the three dimensional relief and tension created by interlocking fibres, imitating the tractive qualities of my visual research.

MOLLY ELIZABETH MCANDREW

This project explores the adventures of two characters I have created, taking inspiration from people I met in Japan. It explores the beauty of traditional handcraft techniques such as tapestry and beading and developing them in a way that can be worn as a fashion accessory. The textile pieces illustrate The Adventures of Neko Chan and Gingham Man, with initial inspiration coming from Japanese women’s Kimono tying and Manga artist Taiyo Matsumoto, who illustrated a manga series about two boys, known as ‘the cats’, who adventure in life. My work demonstrates a playful and modern approach to using sophisticated weaving techniques.

JIRUTCHAYA ASSAVANIWEJ

This is a womenswear fabric collection that evokes childhood memory. It was inspired by toys from different timelines, focusing on shapes, textures and colours. The collection contains a number of designs ranging from subtle to bold colour palettes, which resemble the materials used in making both vintage and contemporary toys. Additionally, the details of each figure such as edges and joints convey the exploration of three-dimensional techniques of seersucker, fringe and floating. These particular techniques magnified the expression of fun within the imprinted patterns.

JACOB MONK

A woven collection inspired by protective-wear and protection that is found in nature. Exploring a range of materials including Kevlar and reflective yarn to give some of the fabric its own protective qualities. The project uses different techniques to manipulate the fabrics’ surfaces to create exaggerated textures, and features sombre tones that are occasionally highlighted by a striking colour.

HYEIN SON

Material Alchemy: Edible or Non-edible? aims to explore edible sources as a textile material. The figure that annually, 25% to 40% of the crops produced in the UK are abandoned, is my starting point. This project combines edible sources with traditional textile techniques for containers/vessels and tablemats in kitchen and dining.

FIONA O’KEEFFE

This project looks at the way in which colours are used around the city to grab a passerby’s attention and explores how the use of colour can be translated into the interior space. Using only hand-dyed silks and wools, ¡Attention!displays a controlled and clashing use of colour and pattern in order to stand out within the home.

CHIKA IWENOFU

My project focuses on ‘hybridity’ through the fusion of the culture and customs of two major tribes in Nigeria with British traditions and customs. I combined elements from these two very distinct cultures in order to produce a collection of luxury gender neutral fashion fabrics suitable for both the male and female markets.

AMBER YINJUE CHEN

How will you picture a market?  For me: boxes everywhere, some empty, some still full, raw meat, fresh vegetables.  A scene of the mixture of both messy and nicely ordered objects.  A scene left only with grids and colourful dots after minimizing it.  These are what I talk about when I talk about Containers and Contents.

Layer by layer, line by line, my project is a process of translation: from chaotic to romantic.  The end of the process is a quirky romantic textile collection for both interior and menswear usage.
