专业情况：
1.专业定义
社会工作专业是个交叉性学科，涉及的专业领域很多，从心理学到社会学，从医学到法学，从管理学到人类学等等。所以，在很多学校的学位设置中，都有double degree或者joint major的提供，目的就是在于让有不同研究方向的学生选择性更大，专业度更强。简言之，社会工作就是以政府为主体，社会力量广泛参与的，以社会工作、社会学、心理学等为主干学科基础，物业管理、医学、法学等为辅助学科，以助人自助为核心理念，并最终达到让社会更和谐的目的。
2.开设情况
美国大学社会工作专业一般都开设在专门的社会工作学院下，和商学院、工程学院等是并列关系。大部分学校也都会提供硕士和博士的学位。对于硕士学位，学制一般是两年，学分要求是60个。对于没有专业背景的本科学生想申请的话，学制会延长至3年。因为社会工作是根据社会现象以及社会的发展而展开的调查、研究和解决方案设计，所以在大学的课程设置中，实践的结合非常显著。一般，每个学校都给学生提供了近百种实习机构供他们选择，实习是他们毕业学分的一部分，我们可以看出，如果你想要申请MSW，那么你要加强你的社会实践的背景。
3.研究方向
社会工作的研究方向包括：Aging、Behavioral Health、Child Welfare、Hearlth、Violence等。每个学校的课程设置和侧重点都不一样。具体参考以下学校举例。
4.是否需要GRE成绩
对于社会工作硕士申请上，大部分学校是不需要GRE的，大概占到70%左右。另外，有一部分学校会明确规定，如果GPA低于3.0或3.3，就强烈建议提供GRE成绩，高于这个分数，就是optional。只有一小部分学校是要求在申请的时候，需要提供GRE成绩，例如University of NorthCarolina-Chapel Hill，University of California-Berkely，Ohio State University，University of Texas-Austin。整体来讲，社会工作的申请难度并不是很大，也是常产名校的一个专业方向，但也偏爱语言表述能力强的学生。一般情况下，学校的托福要求都会在100+。
