Kindergarten Potluck

幼儿园聚餐

On Wednesday 29 November the Kindergarten classes did some cooking and contributed toward a potluck.  A potluck is a tradition where people come together and share a dish or food they have made.  This was done over lunch time in the plant room.  We also took the opportunity to thank Mr. Liu, the head of the GAO, GAO staff and kitchen staff for their hard work and support.

在周三11月29号幼儿园的小朋友们在学校里为了聚餐活动积极准备美食。这个聚餐活动的传统是人们带着自己制作的美食来参加并分享给参会的其他人。午餐时间活动在学校生态厅举办。我们也借此机会来感谢学校总务处的刘校长和其他食堂的工作人员，感谢他们平时的努力工作和对学校的支持。

Time was spent in the Kindergarten classroom where children had the opportunity to make a dish to share.  One class baked cookies and made fruit punch. Others decorated cupcakes, waffles and pancakes. Vegetable wraps and caterpillars with fruit were also made. These activities offered great sensory experiences in the classroom for our students.  The best part as always is eating them at the end!

幼儿园的孩子们事先在班级里准备了美食。有的班级烘培的饼干和果汁，有的装饰了纸杯蛋糕，华夫饼和松饼，还有的准备了素菜卷和 葡萄串。这些活动为我们的学生在课堂上提供了丰富的感官体验。最好的部分总是在最后大家一起享用美食的时候！

When asked about the Kindergarten Potluck Mrs Mitchell said she was so please that the kindergarten students behaved so well in a large setting with the adults present. She expressed that she was very impressed and that these kinds of activities promote respect and orderly behaviour. Mrs. Mitchell also mentioned that she was pleased that the students were thankful to the GAO for all they do.  When asked what her favourite food was, she mentioned the lasagna baked by the canteen and the cupcakes that had faces made from candy.

校长Mrs Mitchell 对能看到幼儿园小朋友在这段长时间内一直表现良好表示非常开心。她表示非常让她印象深刻，而且这些活动能让孩子们增进有爱和有序的行为。孩子们也很感谢总务部门对大家一直以来的支持和帮助。她觉得孩子们用糖果装饰的纸杯蛋糕和食堂做的千层面都非常美味。

When Mr. Liu was asked about the experience he said that the activity moved him and his staff.  He said that this type of collaboration and experience allows his staff to learn more about the children and in turn give the children an opportunity to learn about the work that the GAO staff do for us.  He said it has improved their sense of service and they are grateful for the activity.

总务部门的刘校长说这次活动感动了他和他的员工。他说，这种合作和经验使他的工作人员能够更多地了解孩子，也使孩子们有机会了解总务的工作人员为我们所做的工作。这次活动提高了员工们的服务意识，他们对这次活动表示感谢。

He noted that this activity is very precious to the school because of it’s full of education meaning and it teaches students to be grateful.  The experience of making food improves children’s hands-on ability and enriches our campus culture. The GAO staff loved being part of this activity.  His commented that all the food prepared by the children looked lovely and he especially liked the muffins as he said they weren’t too sweet!

他指出，这项活动对学校来说是非常宝贵的，因为它充满了教育意义，并且教会了学生感恩。动手制作食品的经验提高儿童动手能力，丰富校园文化。他们很高心能参与进来。他评论说孩子们准备的所有食物看起来都很可爱，他特别喜欢玛芬蛋糕，因为它们不太甜！

We would like to thank Mr Gonzales for putting together the decor in the plant room and preparing the tables. Mr Allen spoilt us with his lovely cello music. Kindergarten teachers worked hard to prepare the food with their students and the GAO baked us delicious Lasagne and other yummy foods for lunch! It was a great effort by all and a good day!
