This program will be offered in Mandarin Chinese.
In the summer of 1995, many Americans were glued to their televisions to watch the murder trial of famous football player and actor O.J. Simpson. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the verdict in the O.J. Simpson case, one of the most-watched criminal trials in American history. What does the case say about the strengths and weaknesses of the American criminal justice system? Why did the jury reach a verdict so different from what many people expected? What role did race play in the final outcome? How about police perjury?
Come join us for an evening discussion about the O.J. Simpson case led by two legal experts: Steve Kwok, U.S. Department of Justice’s Resident Legal Advisor; and Professor He Jiahong (何家弘), professor of law at Renmin University. Steve Kwok has served as the U.S. Department of Justice’s Resident Legal Advisor at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing since November 2013. From 2007 to 2013, Mr. Kwok was a federal prosecutor in New York City. He has a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and a law degree from Yale Law School.
