Tishman Speyer’s plans to bring additional office space in Long Island City are moving forward, Curbed has learned. Partnering with global investment firm, Qatari Diar, the development firm is going ahead with its planned 1.1 million square foot office project that will be located next to the 22-story office tower, Gotham Two, that Tishman developed back in 2011.

Plans for this project call for two 27-story towers to be designed by noted architect Raul de Armas of MdeAS Architects. The two office towers will be connected by a four-story podium comprised of retail, restaurants, a food hall, and a parking garage. WeWork has already signed on for 250,000 square feet at one of the two buildings — and that’s part of 800,000 square feet of office space that has already been pre-leased for the project.

This will mark the final phase of development at the site, after Tishman purchased 1.8 million square feet of development rights from the city to building these office towers.

"This project will be a major job generator for Long Island City," deputy mayor Alicia Glen, said in a statement. "We are focused on growing good jobs across the outer boroughs and meeting the demand for new office space. What rises at this site will not only spur our economy, but make Queens Plaza a more dynamic place to live and work."

Construction on the new office towers is likely to get underway sometime next year with an anticipated completion in 2019. Across from this development site, Tishman is building a three tower luxuryresidential project that will bring 1,900 apartments to the neighborhood.
