• As a strategist on the Interest Rates desk in NatWest Markets, you'll originate both market views and specific trade ideas, explaining them clearly and impactfully to market specialists both within and outside the bank

• You'll add value by contributing directly to trading revenue, by enhancing the client franchise, and by improving our risk profile through the quality of your insights

The intellectually rewarding role will see you evaluating trends and events, forming views and trade ideas across relevant product areas or regions – with a particular focus on China and the Asian region – for investor clients and sales teams. The client base consists of traditional ‘real money’ asset managers, hedge funds, banks, central banks , insurance companies, sovereign wealth funds, and significant nonfinancial corporations. Your analytical approach could include statistical analysis of market data, development of fair value models for market instruments, analysis of trends in central bank balance sheets, fundamental economic data, government budgets, political analysis via news feeds and polling data, or detailed consideration of relevant changes to the regulatory environment. Some of the key aspects of your role will include:

• Developing spreadsheet based tools and NatWest Market trading tools to enable high quality analysis

• Contribute to flagship branded marketing communications – known as 'notes' – under the guidance of senior strategists; daily, weekly, and ad-hoc

• Directing discussions with investors, both face-to-face remotely, to explain market views

• Acting as first port of call for non-routine questions from clients on market themes

We're looking for someone with proven understanding of, and interest in, fundamental economic frameworks and current affairs in global economics and political economy. Understanding of political analysis frameworks will be an advantage, as will experience accessing and using economic data from significant Asian economies. You'll also need quantitative skills, with some familiarity with statistical methods or software, and strong Excel skills. Some programming knowledge could also be an advantage. We'll also expect:

• An undergraduate degree at 2.1 or above, or international equivalent, or the equivalent relevant experience

• Fluency in both Cantonese and Mandarin

• Business experience in a financial institution

• Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills

• An attractive presentation style, with the ability to explain the consequences of detailed analysis and its relevance to individual investors

• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively manage customer and stakeholder expectations

• Strong risk and controls discipline
