I was pleased attending a mathematics class this morning with you, which reminded me of my school time. I believe all of you are so better at numbers and calculations than I.

While observing, I noticed many of you , more or less, found some difficult vocabulary when working out mathematical problems. For example, the words like perimeter and parallelogram made you hard to move on. I believe this is the importance and necessity to involve you to study subject vocabulary and expressions before you move into the main strem classes where you would otherwise be challenged if you didn't prepare the language well.

So, this is my suggestion of how to improve your language ability more effectively:

    - use English-English dictionary, rather than English-Chinese dictionary, hardcopy or electronic one

     - copy the vocabulary you look up every day, and study it

      - if you love Google Translation at the moment, fine, but don't depend on it forever, depend on your brain, your powerful brain.

     - it is not enough to review your vocabulary booklet just for once a day, instead, like your 3 meals a day, increase the frequency, then you grow up.

Learning English has great fun. I believe you met the word 'minute' this morning when you calculated the change after some shopping. This word has nothing to do with time, and its pronunciation is different from what it means time measurement.

Yes, 'minute' here means 'very small, tiny', it's not a noun, it's actually an adjective.

So, when you look up your dictioanry, you need to know what part of speech this word is, and how many meanings it has.

Another example today is 'table' which can mean either a furniture or a chart in which numbers and figures are put to give you data.

Test yourself every day by writing all the new words on a sheet without any looking back at your book or dictionary. if you can do it, this is yours.
