国务卿迈克·蓬佩奥（Mike Pompeo）在穆斯林宰牲节（Eid al-Adha）到来之际，通过视频向全世界穆斯林祝贺节日。

Secretary Pompeo wishes Muslims of the world Eid Mubarak

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo marked the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha with a video message to Muslims around the world.

“This is a time of reflection and prayer, when Muslims around the world come together with friends and family in a spirit of peace and compassion,” Pompeo says in his message.

The secretary’s wish of “Eid Mubarak” translates to “blessed celebration.” The secretary also notes the acts of charity and sacrifice that are an integral part of Eid al-Adha.

Assistant to the President Jason Greenblatt also reached out on Twitter to wish “all who are celebrating a blessed Eid al-Adha. May the holiday bring you and your families joy, prosperity, and peace!”

Eid al-Adha, which means “Festival of Sacrifice,” is the most important festival in the Islamic calendar. It takes place during the annual hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.

The festival has its origin in Allah’s testing of the Prophet Ibrahim by asking him to sacrifice his own son. At the last moment, Allah replaced the son with a ram to be sacrificed in his place. In celebration of Ibrahim’s ultimate act of devotion, Muslims sacrifice an animal on Eid al-Adha every year.
