In order to cast your vote from Shanghai, you must apply to vote by mail. Click 'Read More' below to access the application page.
When you apply to vote by mail, you will be sent a special ballot voting kit containing a voting ballot & a return envelop.
Special Ballot
*Elections Canada recommends that you apply as soon as possible to allow the kit to reach you and for your marked ballot to reach Elections Canada by election day.
Please Note:
Any eligible voter may apply to vote by special ballot, as long as Elections Canada gets their application by the deadline: 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13th.
Once your application to vote by special ballot has been accepted, this is the only way you can vote. You cannot vote at the advance or election day polls, or apply for another special ballot.
The deadline for Elections Canada to recieve your ballot is the time that the polls close in your riding on Monday, October 19th.

Canadians can bring their registration kits to the Consulate General of Canada in Shanghai and they will fax it to Canada on the voter's behalf.
Canadians can also select to have their voting kits sent to the Consulate General (they have to indicate so on their registration form) and they can pick up the voting kit from there once we receive it.

Due to a recent court decision, those Canadians living abroad for the past five years or more may not be eligible to vote. If Canadians have questions as to their eligibility to vote, they should contact Elections Canada to make the determination.
You are exempt from the five-year limit if you are:
Employed outside Canada in the federal public administration or the public service of a province;
Employed outside Canada by an international organization of which Canada is a member and to which Canada contributes, or;
Living with an elector employed as described above, or with a member of the Canadian Forces posted outside Canada, or with a person employed outside Canada by the Canadian Forces as a teacher or as administrative support staff in a Canadian Forces school.
