A man has been arrested by counter-terrorism police in Melbourne over a "specific" threat to a target in Victoria, police say.
Victoria's Joint Counter-Terrorism Team, comprising officers from the Australian Federal Police and Victoria Police, executed four warrants across the state on Saturday.
Two AFP warrants were executed at Braybrook, in Melbourne's west, one at Bacchus Marsh, north-west of Melbourne, and one at Tatura, in central Victoria.
Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Ross Guenther said a 31-year-old man was arrested by Special Operations Group members at Ballarat Road, Braybrook, about 1:00pm and he would be interviewed by AFP officers.
He said the raids were part of an ongoing investigation but stressed there was no immediate or impending threat to the community.
"I think we've interrupted something that could have been harmful to our community," Assistant Commissioner Guenther said.
"The threat was specific enough to cause us alarm."
However, he said it was unclear whether an individual or group of people were the target.
Assistant Commissioner Guenther said the investigation was in its early stages and further arrests could not be ruled out.
When asked whether the man was a member of a far-right group, Assistant Commissioner Guenther said the man who had been arrested had been affiliated "with a number of organisations".
