首先：千万要诚实！比如说，怀孕来美国生产其实并无不法，违法的是明明有生子意图，却谎称只是来纯观光的「欺骗」。很多被拒绝入境而遭遣返的例子，都是因为说谎欺骗海关，或是来美生产计划当中有不法部分。所以要再重申一件事：欺骗海关官员绝对有罪。
其次，千万别慌张。慢慢说，有自信，不要表现得很心虚、遮遮掩掩的样子。不需要讲完美英文，简短、简洁、听得懂就好，甚至用单字回答都可以。
第三如果听不懂海关问什么，千万不要点头说Yes Yes。可以表明自己英文不好，海关会找人协助。

Q: May I see your passport, please？ (请出示护照)
A: Here is my passport and the declaration form. (这是我的护照和申报单)
Q: Where are you from？ / Where do you come from？（你是哪里人？）
A: I am from China/Taiwan/Hong Kong/Macao...
Q: What is your final destination？ (你本行目的地在哪？)
A: I am going to (地方名).
Q: What's the purpose of your visit？ (你来美国的目的是什么) / Why are you here？ (你为什么来美国)
A: I'm on a trip. / I'm on vacation. (我来旅游度假) / Travel. (观光)
I'm here to visit my friends/family. (我来拜访亲友的。请用 "visit"，别说"find"，否则像是要找失踪人口)
I'm on a business trip. / I'm here for business. (我来出差/做生意/商务旅行)
I'm here for school. / I'm here to study. (我来念书的)
I'm here to work. (我来工作的)
Q: How long are you planning to stay？ / How long will you stay？
A: 你预计要停留的时间。若已经买好回程机票，也可以顺便提My return flight is on (回程班机日期).
Q: Where will you be staying？ / Whose address is this？你会住哪里？/ 这是谁的地址？
A: I will stay at my friend's place. / I will stay with my family. (我会住我朋友家/我会跟家人住一起)
I will stay at the hotel / Airbnb / B&B. (我会住旅馆 /Airbnb / B&B)
I will stay(live) in the dorm.（我会住学校宿舍）
Q: Are you bringing any food with you？ (你有带食物吗)
A: 请据实回答Yes/No。不论是不是违禁品，只要是能吃的东西就要写Yes，可以顺便提是什么，比如说Yes I am, but just some snacks.
Q: How much cash are you carrying with you？ (你身上带多少现金)
A: I have (金额) dollars cash. （超过1万美元上限记得申报）
Q: What's in here？What do you have in the bag/luggage？(你的行李里面有什么)
A: My clothes, some snacks and sweets. （大概说一些有什么，最常说的就是衣物跟零食）
Q: Do you have anything to declare？ (你有东西要申报吗)
A: No, nothing. (没有) / Yes, I have filled out the form accordingly. (有，我已经填好申报表了)
Q: What do you do for a living？ What is your occupation？ (你的工作是什么)- 回答职业名称
Q: What company do you work for？ (你在哪间公司上班) - 回答公司名之外，还可以报上地名
Q: What does your company do？ (你们公司在做什么的)
Q: What do you do in the company？ (你在公司里做什么工作)

如果你的个人资料没什么问题，在边问话的过程中，海关人员就会要你按压指纹、照相。顺序依次是：
- right four fingers (右手四指)
- right thumb (右手大拇指)
- left four fingers (左手四指)
- left thumb (左手大拇指)
- look at the camera (看镜头照相)
