Overview
Applications are invited for the above post based within the School of Biosciences at the Sutton Bonington Campus.
The position will form part of a team associated with the BBSRC-Newton funded project entitled “Maintaining rice reproduction under high temperature stress”.
This project is a collaboration between the University of Nottingham, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science and Shanghai Jiao Tong University and will seek to understand how plants cope with heat stress during reproductive development.
The role is to provide specialist technical support in laboratory analysis & plant maintenance.
Duties Will Include
- Laboratory analysis: molecular genetics eg. running gels, PCR, expression analysis, developing media
- Bioinformatic analysis: molecular cytogenetics – genomic in situ hybridisation
- Plant maintenance: potting, watering, collecting & sowing seed
- Ensuring stocks & equipment in own areas of responsibility are maintained & available for use
- Maintaining a safe working environment in accordance with statutory & University Health & Safety procedures
Requirements
- Candidates must have a minimum of HNC in a relevant subject, or equivalent qualifications plus considerable relevant technical / scientific experience in a relevant role OR substantial work experience in a relevant technical or scientific role
- The role holder should be able to demonstrate proven molecular biology skills & a good working knowledge of techniques including PCR
- Experience working in the area of plant biology & genetics would be desirable
- Experience in large-scale plant maintenance, husbandry is essential to the role, some experience of transformation of monocot plant species, e.g. rice & phenotyping plants would be desirable.
- The successful candidate should be a proficient computer user & demonstrate good IT skills

This part-time (18.12 hours per week) post is available immediately and is fixed-term until 31 December 2018.
