The Ministry for Primary Industries team at the New Zealand Embassy in Beijing is looking for a new policy advisor and interpreter/translator. The successful new team member will:
provide two-way interpretation and translation services for seconded staff;
provide high quality and insightful market advice;
work on projects, which will include travel in China, research, and producing reports;
build relationships with businesses and government regulators.

The team
For small country, New Zealand is a big exporter of food, beverage and primary products. China is one of New Zealand’s most important trading partners, with New Zealand’s food, beverage and primary industries trade with China growing spectacularly in the last ten years. That includes New Zealand’s dairy, meat, seafood, forestry, horticulture, wine, and other food and beverage exports.
The Primary Industries team at the Embassy helps facilitate market access for New Zealand’s food, beverage and primary product trade with China, facilitates border clearance of food and beverage imports, monitors in market supply chains, and enhances perceptions of New Zealand as a key partner in China’s agribusiness and food industry development.

Applications close at 5pm on 12 September 2017.
Applications should be in English, and include a CV and a cover letter.
Process
After applications close we will short-list applicants. In the week beginning 18 September 2017 we will invite short-listed applicants to attend an interview in person at the New Zealand Embassy in Beijing.
The interview will comprise three sections:
a panel interview based on the applicant’s skills and experience;
an English to Chinese, and Chinese to English oral interpretation assessment; and
an English to Chinese, and Chinese to English written translation assessment.
Additional details
If the successful applicant is not currently living in Beijing they will be required to cover their own relocation costs. All accommodation, medical, taxation and other costs associated with living in Beijing will be the personal responsibility of the successful applicant.
Remunerationis to be mutually agreed, commensurate with the successful applicant’s skills and experience.
