Once children start school, teachers have more influence on their intellectual and social development than parents. Do you agree or disagree with this statement?
As children commence their school life, teachers begin to have a greater influence on their intellectual and personal development than parents. I completely agree with this opinion as teachers provide opportunity for gaining not only education, but also vital skills and values that are quintessential for future life.
Firstly, children’s development depends on teachers when they start school based on the subjects that they are taught and the way these subjects are taught. Teachers affect students in multiple ways, from academic learning to personal development as they allow students to gain not only knowledge on diverse areas, but also skills that are vital for both professional and personal life. For example, an English teacher focusses on teaching grammatical rules and vocabulary to students that are useful for building language skills of the students. She also imparts practical aptitude to the students by way of individual assessments, group assignments as well as open debates and discussions, building essential skills including communication and teamwork that are important for professionalism.
Moreover, at school, teachers have a great influence on the student’s personality and behavioral traits. Teachers hold the authority to instill social values in children when they are at school that develop the young ones’ value system. For instance, a teacher might reprimand a student if he or she is late to class or does not submit his or her homework on time, making the student learn about punctuality, respect and equality which are crucial social norms.
In conclusion, I agree with the view that teachers hold larger impact on children’s intellectual and social development than parents once children start school as teachers build their students knowledge base, skillset and personal values that affect their holistic development.
