Budget airline Jetstar will introduce new, tighter combined carry-on baggage limits of 7kgs with specialised "cabin baggage officers" on deck to enforce the rules.
Carry-on baggage limits will be slashed from 10kg to a 7kg next week on all Jetstar flights except those going to and from Japan.
The 30 percent reduction will cover all carry-on luggage, including smaller handbags or backpacks.
Passengers who are caught trying to circumvent the new restrictions and sneak larger items on board will be forced to check it in at an additional cost of $50 for domestic flights and $160 for international travellers.
Business class passengers will also have their baggage allowance reduced, from 20kg to 14kg.
The changes come after the budget carrier introduced a grading to its checked-bag fees in the past year, charging passengers depending on which airports they are flying to and when they fly.
A spokesman for the airline told News Corp the changes are being introduced to reduce passenger frustrations when they struggle to find space in overhead compartments for their hand luggage.
"To address this we are reducing the amount of baggage that customers can bring on board, which will align us with other carriers in Australia and across the Asia-Pacific region," the airline said.
"This change will help speed up the boarding process, enable more flights to depart on time and ensure all customers get their fair share of overhead locker space."
Jetstar's new limits come in line with Virgin which also has a 7kg limit for carry-on baggage.
Tigerair still has a 10kg allowance for its passengers but vowed it would crackdown on those who bent or broke the rules.

该航空公司的一名发言人说，实施这些新的规则目的是为了减少乘客在寻找头顶上方的行李舱时产生的烦恼情绪。
“为了解决这个问题，我们减少了顾客能带上飞机的行李数量，这也与澳洲和亚太地区其他的航空公司保持一致了。”
“这一变化将提高登机进程，能使更多的航班准时离港，也能使所有的乘客公平地获得头顶上方行李舱的份额。”
Jetstar的新规定与Virgin航空公司的行李限制一致，都是7公斤。
虎航仍是10公斤的行李限额，但是它声称要严惩那些违反规定的人。

还能不能好好的玩耍了，这分明是针对国际游客的嘛，一般性作为中国游客去澳洲，人均20KG这是起步价。如果想设计一个自由行澳洲游这个成本就一下上去了。基本上这几年国内游客去的比较多的是：墨尔本、悉尼、黄金海岸、塔斯马尼亚、帕斯、大堡礁。当中选择2~3个地方。可现在一提高价格吧，又不可能取消。哎。。。有钱任性啊~~~
