Colds and flu, sinus infections, sore throats, lingering coughs are all symptoms of winter and are caused by viruses. If viral infections seem to target you, you may need to improve your immune system.

Optimal immune function is your main defence against respiratory infections that are prevalent through autumn and winter. The average adult has about 3 colds per year and in children that number can be as high as 8 colds per year. The weaker your immune system the more prone you are to infections. Decrease stress – Stress has a negative impact on immune function. To help minimise stress reassess your lifestyle - take up stress-reducing hobbies such as yoga or meditation and add humour to your life, laughter has been shown to improve immune function so watch a funny movie.

减压 - 压力对免疫功能有着直接的影响。尽量减少生活压力,多做减压运动,如:瑜伽、冥想和幽默。笑是最有效的办法,它已被证明了可以改善提高免疫功能,多看搞笑开心的电影。


Exercise – regular exercise stimulates the release of ‘feel good’ hormones to reduce stress. Exercise also increases levels of white blood cells although excessive strenuous exercise can deplete the immune system so get a good balance.

Sleep soundly – sleep deprivation has depletes the immune function so try to get at least 7-8 hours a night, this is especially important for children.

Diet – eating healthy food provides immune cells with what they need to function properly. Immune enhancing foods include fresh, brightly coloured fruit and vegetables, garlic, onions, ginger, green tea, manuka honey, whey protein, shitake mushrooms, eggs, natural yoghurt and fish. Reduce sugar intake, sugar compromises the function of white blood cells. Drink plenty of purified water or herbal teas to keep mucus membranes hydrated so they can keep the viruses out.
