Post-Graduate Admissions Officer for Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Bath.
Sophie is a PG Admissions Officer for the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. She has worked at the University for 7 years and has worked in the education sector for 13 years.Her main responsibilities are for the MA programmes in the Department of Politics, Languages and International Studies and the Department of Economics.
Sophie has a lot of experience of customer service both within and outside of the education sector.
Virginia Irwin MA MBA has worked as Deputy Head of International Student Recruitment at the University of Bath since 2007. She is the country manager for mainland China and Hong Kong and is responsible for talking to Chinese students about all aspects of their plans to study at the University: the programmes and entry requirements, admissions processes, fees and funding and all the practical aspects of taking this big decision. She also works with our representatives in China and with the academic and professional staff of the University to help them understand about Chinese education and she manages most of the University’s post-graduate international scholarship schemes.
Before she worked at Bath she was an English language teacher and worked in Europe, Australia and Asia for organisations such as the British Council. If she gets any free time in China, she likes visiting historical and cultural places and walking in the hills around Beijing…and trying different types of Chinese food.

课程简介：
该课程覆盖了会议口译(同声、交替和联络)和翻译的各个方面。课程传授给学生不是语言本身，而是翻译的技巧和技能，并且引导学生进入职业领域。为此，除了核心的翻译课程外，学系还提供一些课外选修课程，旨在提升学生的背景知识。广泛而言，该课程体现了一个宗旨：将专业知识应用于工作实际。
课程特色1：
巴斯大学提供翻译课程已有近三十年之历史，是欧洲最早提供翻译课程的学校之一。
课程特色2：
多年来已造就无数翻译专家，在翻译领域中居翘楚之地位，提供英-法、英-德、英-义、英-西、英-俄等欧洲语，以及英-中、英-日等亚洲语言的双向口译笔译课程。
课程特色3：
课程以实用的课程为主，并非纯学术理论导向，学生有机会至联合国在欧洲举行之会议进行观摩，故任何学术背景领域者皆可申请。
适合群体：
期望从事同传领域工作的申请人。
课程设置(基本模块)：
全学年交替传译，翻译.课外选修(选择零至二门)：商用日文，商用中文，商用英文。课外选修(选择零至一门)：经济学导论，基本国际法与实际法律翻译，欧盟法，职业工作途径，翻译器的软件包，英国法律要素。第一学期。同声传译，联络翻译。课外选修(选择零至一门)：欧盟组织。第二学期同声传译，附加翻译，公共服务口译。论文阶段论文/项目。以上所有翻译课程均为英语与法语，俄语，意大利语，德语，日语，西班牙语和中文之间的互译。此课程为母语为非英语的学生准备了一个特制的英语训练课程。课程长度取决与学生入学时的英语能力。

平时测试和最后的毕业论文。
就业方向：中文方向的毕业生常被预约在英国，法国，澳门，台湾等国家地区政府部门担任工作，也有在大型公司，诸如：保捷环球(Bowne)(为微软翻译产品)，Sophos防毒软件公司，乐购，保诚集团，普华永道，路透社和电力电网公司担任翻译。以下组织亦招聘过本课程欧洲方向的毕业生：联合国(日内瓦，维也纳，纽约)，世界知识产权组织(日内瓦)，国际电信联盟(日内瓦)欧洲委员会(布鲁塞尔和卢森堡)，欧洲议会(卢森堡)，欧洲理事会(斯特拉斯堡)，世界卫生组织(日内瓦)，北约(布鲁塞尔)，欧洲航天局(巴黎)，英国广播电台世界部(伦敦)。
