Over the last 18 months our Group Finance function in London has evolved rapidly and continues to expand across all of our sub-teams: Tax, Legal, Treasury and Commercial Finance. All of the team provide leadership and advice on strategic projects, playing an instrumental role in the development of Finance as a critical and integrated partner within the business and ensure the long-term success of Farfetch!
The Role
The Head of Legal will work on all aspects of the China business, including the commercial, technical-regulatory, logistics, finance, employment, marketing (online, offline and social media), consumer advisory, data protection/data privacy, intellectual property, real estate communications and PR teams.
The role reports to the Managing Director, China, with a dotted line to the Group General Counsel, based in London.
The role will be based in Farfetch’s offices in Shanghai and promises a varied, fast-paced commercial experience with the opportunity to strengthen your core skill set and expertise but also to develop a wide range of legal experience and develop rapidly. In a legal function which is seen as a real partner to the business, this is a great chance to gain exposure to practical challenges requiring both legal knowledge and commercial acumen.
At least initially, it will be a ‘top to bottom’ role, covering all legal aspects (with support from external counsel and/or the central Farfetch Legal team as required) and a passion for Farfetch and an enthusiasm for understanding the business, combined with a ‘can do’ attitude and commercial approach is a must. You will be working with all different seniorities within the Farfetch structure and you must be able to adapt your working and communication style to suit the situation.
What You’ll Do
·Negotiating, reviewing and drafting all types of contracts and legal documents.
·Advising the operational and functional departments in all areas of law including commercial, technical-regulatory, marketing, logistics, finance, employment, marketing (online, offline and social media), consumer advisory, data protection/data privacy, intellectual property, real estate communications and PR
·Increasing operational and functional departments’ awareness of Group best practices.
·Advising on local regulatory framework, local competition law and supporting the Group General Counsel in ensuring compliance.
·Monitoring intellectual property issues and brand protection and working with the Principal Legal Counsel (IP/Commercial) in London on all IP/Brand Protection matters to ensure alignment with Group policy and strategic aims.
·Training the China business on relevant aspects of the law.
·Establishing a high profile of the Farfetch Legal function throughout the China area and encouraging active legal involvement in operational decision making.
·Liaising with colleagues across the Group as necessary to coordinate and/or implement projects and solutions.
The network you would work with
You will work primarily with the teams in China and Hong Kong and also with any teams globally as required. You will be expected to participate at a management level in terms of advising decision making processes in China and Hong Kong. You will be expected to work with and manage external legal counsel and also develop and cultivate a strong relationship with the central Group Legal function in London.
Who You Are
·Qualified to practice law in PRC.
·Strong demonstrable and relevant track record of advising on legal issues for e-commerce companies.
·Excellent communication (written and spoken), negotiation and presentational skills. High level spoken and written Chinese and English is required.
·Strategic thinker with ability to move effortlessly between strategy, implementation and tactical opportunities
·Ability to rapidly digest and distil complex issues and formulate strategy / responses
·Ability to establish, exploit and influence effective networks at all levels
·Confident, persuasive individual capable of managing and resolving difficult situations
