日程 Schedule (subject to change)

9:00-9:15: Opening Remarks

9:15-10:30: Sharing is Caring: A Collection of Teacher's Resources – Dani Francuz Rose

Teachers often have a lot on their plates, which is why we love to share resources that not only make our classes better but also make our lives a little easier. In this workshop, the presenter will share a plethora of resources that she has utilized in her courses. All the resources covered are accessible online and are great for recycling, adapting, or even just sparking new ideas. The resources include teacher tools such as online graders, record keepers, and professional development sources, as well as classroom materials such as student tools, lesson plans, activity ideas, etc. The participants will walk through accessing various sites and materials and will be given a chance to share some of their own go-to resources with the group.

10:45-12:00: Technology in the Classroom. Best online resources. – Damien Shuck

Having computers and cellphones in the classroom are a wonderful new tool available to teachers.  We have the opportunity to integrate technology into lessons like never before.  In many cases we can instantly use videos and media in our lectures and guide students to the resources needed to help them.  But finding the best resources for classrooms and students can be difficult. In this presentation the presenter discusses specific websites to use for resources in academic writing, pronunciation, class design, class activities and reading resources.

12:00-13:30 Lunch Break

13:30-14:45: Use Those Phones! Apps and Sites for Mobile Vocabulary Learning – Dani Francuz Rose

We've all got 'em, why not use 'em? In this workshop the presenter will share various websites and apps that can be used on mobile devices for vocabulary learning, practicing, and strengthening. Participants will get to play along as several games and activities are demonstrated through the use of real-time responses and game play on mobile phones. The workshop will also offer ideas of how to incorporate these resources and activities into lesson planning for any course as well as allow participants to discuss topics such as cellphone usage in class and building student autonomy.

15:00-16:15 Integrating Creative Writing – Damien Shuck

Chinese students often say that they are not as creative as foreign students. I can tell you this is completely untrue. Using creative writing in writing classrooms and exposing students to quality, contemporary English writing is an important aspect of advanced language learning and serves as an excellent vehicle to get students to write.  Relying on archaic writing does not teach students modern English and studying only academic work does not teach students normal communicative English.  By using creative writing to practice basic skills students will willingly create more pages of work than academic exercises. Creative writing also helps to inspire originality and creativity.

16:15-16:30 Closing Remarks
