New survey confirms Australia remains anattractive and high-quality international study destination
The Minister forEducation and Training, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, has welcomed the resultsof a national survey of international students studying in Australia.
Minister Pyne saidthe results of the national 2014 International Student Survey released todaypresented a positive snapshot of the experiences of international students whohave chosen to study in Australia.
“The report confirms that thereputation of Australian institutions and the quality of teaching are by farthe most important factors for international students choosing Australiaover other countries,” Mr Pyne said.
Presently Australia is the fifth mostpopular international study destination behind the USA, UK, Germany and France.The top reasons for choosing Australia, identified as important or veryimportant by over 90 per cent of higher education student respondents, were:
· reputation of chosen qualification (95%)
· reputation of chosen institution (94%)
· reputation of Australia’s education system(93%)
· personal safety (92%); and
· quality of research and teaching at choseninstitution (91%).
“The results alsofound that 88 per cent of international students were satisfied or verysatisfied with their overall studying and living experience in Australia,” MrPyne said.
“This result is aremarkable further improvement on the already-favourable findings of the 2012and 2010 surveys, which found 87 and 86 per cent satisfaction levelsrespectively.
“These resultsreflect extremely well on the Australian education industry, showing thatAustralia is an excellent destination for international students at all levelsof education.”
The 2014 surveyattracted responses from over 50,000 international students studying inAustralia in the higher education, vocational education and training (VET),English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) and secondaryschools sectors.
