奥塔哥大学建于1869年，是新西兰最古老的大学，也是全国规模最大的大学之一，有16000名学生，分布在接近一百个系和研究中心里学习。这里也接纳了近1200名留学生。

本科生：商科、理科、健康科学及文科都有灵活的学士学位课可供学生选择。牙科、法律、医药实验科学、医学、药剂学物理医疗、物理教育、土地勘探、音乐、教学与神学都可提供专业学位。
海外学习和交流：希望在奥塔哥大学学习一到两学期的外国学生可以方便地选择很多学位课程。
研究生：各专业都有提供毕业文凭、硕士学位和博士学位的课程供学生选择。应用统计学、商务管理、牙科学、医学、环境科学、地区和资源规划、旅游、野生动物管理和空间信息研究等专业还提供包括文凭、硕士学位在内的专业资格。
