How did the World Economy get so messed up? What lessons can China learn from the world? “Talking Economics” Forum & Reception Dinner, organized by Canadian Consulate General in Chongqing and the American Chamber of Commerce in Southwest China, gave us the answers. On October 16th, 2014, Thursday, the “Talking Economics” Forum & Reception Dinner was successfully held in Radisson Blu Plaza Chongqing.
全球经济颓势之新旧教训剖析—中国可借鉴的经验，由中国西南美国商会与加拿大驻重庆总领事馆共同举办的“加中经济论坛”及招待晚宴，于2014年10月16日星期四，在重庆丽笙世嘉酒店顺利举行。

At the very beginning, Mr. Philippe Rheault, the Canadian Consul General, made a brief opening speech. Then, the keynote speaker, Mr. Donald Drummond, gave us wonderful speech on the world economy.
讲坛开场，加拿大驻重庆总领事欧阳飞先生致开幕词。接着，主讲人唐纳德•德拉蒙德针对全球经济问题做了精彩的演讲。

Mr. Donald Drummond was born and raised in Victoria, British Columbia, where he graduated from the University of Victoria. He received his MA in Economics from Queen's University. He is a keynote speaker on the economy and finance and is currently an Adjunct Professor with the School of Policy Studies and the Matthews Fellow in Global Policy at Queen’s University.

唐纳德•德拉蒙德先生出生并成长于不列颠哥伦比亚省的维多利亚市，毕业于维多利亚大学，随后从皇后大学获得了经济学硕士学位。他是经济和金融方面的重要发言人，目前是皇后大学政策研究学院的客座教授，以及全球政策方面的马修斯研究员。

During the forum, Mr. Donald Drummond summarized that there were two lessons that we could learn from the past. The first lesson was that fiscal and monetary policies were notvery effective in correcting a global downturn once it had hit; so this made itimperative to reduce the risks of a recurrence. Another lesson was the need for tighter international policy coordination. Meanwhile, as economic cycles had become more synchronized around the globe due to rapid growth in the emerging economies, the intensification of global trade, the globalization of financial products, and the international coordination of policies. This meant that while the largest economies – the US, China and the EU – can lift the world economy, they can also sink it if they went off course. We must learn the old and new lessons and address the economic vulnerabilities that remain. We are supposed to capitalize experience in our way and solve the problem of economic vulnerabilities remains.

在讲坛期间，德拉蒙德先生对全球经济问题作了详细精彩的讲解分析。他总结道从全球经济颓势问题中我们可以得出两个教训：第一个教训就是，当全球经济低迷已经出现时，财政和货币政策都无法有效扭转形势，因此降低复发风险就尤为重要。另一个教训是全球需要更紧密的国际政策协调。同时，由于新兴经济体的快速增长、全球贸易的加强、金融产品的全球化以及政策的国际协调，经济周期的全球同步化会程度进一步提高。尽管全球最大的经济体——美国、中国和欧盟，可以繁荣世界经济，如果他们偏离正轨，也能造成全球经济衰退。我们必须吸取新旧教训，解决仍然存在的经济脆弱性。

Mr. Donald Drummond’s detailed and humorous analysis about the world economy won great interests and warm applause from the audience. After the forum, all distinguished guests had a wonderful time communicating with each other while enjoying the delicious food and drinks provided by the Radisson Blu Plaza Chongqing, and the “Talking Economics” Forum & Reception Dinner came to asuccessful end.

在互动提问环节，现场嘉宾也针对不同方面积极提问。德拉蒙德先生风趣幽默的谈吐和精彩的分析赢得了在场来宾的掌声，现场气氛活跃。讲坛结束后，来宾们一边享用美味晚宴，一边与到场嘉宾及德拉蒙德先生相互交流。至此，本次中加经济讲坛重庆站也圆满落下帷幕。

Over 100 distinguished guests from Canadian Consulate General, British Consulate General, AmCham member companies, AmCham Partner companies and organizations, and varied media attended this Forum & Reception Dinner.
