Some people think environmental issues are too big for individuals to solve, others thinks individuals also can do something for these problems. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Environmental issues are possibly the most important debate of the twenty-first century. It can be argued that it is impossible for one person to solve environmental problems, but I believe that individuals have the ability to make an impact.

On one hand, one person alone may not be able to solve every environmental problem. Since the dawn of the industrial revolution, society as a whole contributes to pollution. To illustrate, even if one person eliminates their carbon footprint, society will still mass-produce consumer goods, households will still consume fossil fuels for energy and billions of cars will still be used daily.

On the other hand, the real solution to environmental issues only takes a single person. The real answer to environmental issues is to generate clean, renewable sources of energy, which will reduce the damaging effects of society as a whole. A single person is capable of discovering or sparking a breakthrough, which can change the world. For example, Henry Ford is thought of as a catalyst for the widespread use of cars and mass production.

In my opinion, one action can lead to another. When a single individual works to solve environmental problems they can inspire another. A chain reaction can then lead to an idea that changes the world. If Henry Ford could affect the world though manufacturing, another single individual can also lead to a cleaner, more sustainable future.

In conclusion, while one person may only be a small part of a bigger issue, history is filled with individuals who had a profound impact on society. I believe that one person could certainly be credited with solving environmental issues, as Gandhi once said, “Be the change you want to see in the world”.
