Some people think ALL young people should be FORCED to study full time before 18. To what extent do you agree or disagree. 

As people have become more aware of the importance of education, some have suggested that full time education should be compulsory for everyone under the age of 18. Although this would be helpful to society because it would raise the literacy rate, thereby helping to produce more productive citizens, we must also consider that some individuals aren’t suited to formal education and would ultimately be happier and more productive directly going into the workforce.

Enforcing compulsory full time education would be beneficial to society as it would produce more productive citizens overall. Ensuring everyone under the age of 18 studies full time would guarantee everyone receives a proper education and this would raise the overall literacy rate of society. As an education is often crucial to earning a job to be able support ourselves, making full time education compulsory to children would benefit society.

However, if we were to look further at the individual people affected by enforcing compulsory education, we would find that there would be problems as not all people require full time formal education to pursue their careers. Some people’s talents lie elsewhere, away from any practice that requires higher level academia, and forcing them to study would disengage them from becoming productive and ultimately would waste not only their time, but also society’s resources.

Although society would benefit from making education for people under 18 mandatory, we must also consider the ramifications of such action on individuals. As some people would benefit from going directly into full time work before they turn18, we must further consider the wide spread effects offorcing full time education before making such a decision.
