Our prestigious Automotive client based primarily between Whitley, Coventry and Gaydon, Warwickshire, is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Test Engineer to work within our Clients Over expanding Powertrain department on a full time basis.
The Robustness test role involves `hands on' vehicle and engine testing at a number of test sites in the UK & around the world. At these sites JLR vehicles and engines are subjected to a number of different test regimes specific selected to assess the robustness of the Powertrain,

- Responsible for the planning & monitoring of tests
- Ability to fault find & resolve complex system issues & effectively manage & communicate findings to the system owners within PT as well as the wider engineering community by becoming a competent participant in the issue management system
- Often working remotely, the role demands a good knowledge of Automotive systems & technology & a strong electrical, calibration and diagnostic capability
- Analytical and Data driven approach to problem solving - quickly adapting to new data formats, software, component systems on various engine types to confirm proper engine operation - including diagnostic, electrical and advanced modern calibration appreciation
- Experience in producing executive summary's and leading problem solving and failure investigations, using some of: Global 8D, DMAIC, problem solving, 5 why method, Ishikawa diagrams etc
- High levels of personal organisation to ability to manage and prioritise multiple concurrent tasks and projects independently
- A professional and quality driven approach is essential
- German or Chinese Language skills would be advantageous
- Must have flexibility and willingness to travel and work between sites and external test facilities is essential, both around the UK, Europe and worldwide when required
- Flexibility and willingness to work flexible hours, including but not limited to extended weekly working hours, double day shift, night shift and weekend work where required
- Strong working knowledge of IC engine components and systems
- Experience within engine product development, design or calibration environment
- Experience with data analysis and calibration toolsets, i.e. Vehicle Spy, INCA, Diadem, Concerto or equivalents
- Demonstrate skills in test & development, with experience of combustion, performance, economy, durability of engines and/or in-vehicle testing
- Must hold full & valid driving licence for UK use and be able to demonstrate driving skills that meet the company standard to enable use of company vehicles
- Previous experience of problem solving and quality tools (8D, Ishikawa, IS / IS NOT etc)
- Service / dealer / supplier or relevant experience would also be desirable
- Experience of working with external suppliers in both the UK and abroad would be advantageous
- Advanced driver training would be useful - OEM / Tier 1 driving permits or IAM advanced motoring skills or equivalent
- Preferably degree qualified but not essential - if other, relevant engineering qualifications are held
Testing will predominantly be UK based split between Whitley and Gaydon but with occasional overseas testing in Italy, Germany, UAE and Sweden and potentially China / USA
